The week of May 17-23, 2020 is National Public Works Week (NPWW)! NPWW is an opportunity for public works agencies and professionals to bring positive attention and awareness to the thousands of unsung heroes who help provide for the safety citizens, maintain infrastructure and provide services throughout the United States.
The Ventura County Public Works Agency will host an educational Public Works Day event on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 from 9am-2pm. This is our day to showcase the many ways we deliver services to the citizens of Ventura County. All members of public are invited to participate in various activities and demonstrations. The Government Center parking lot will be filled with display booths, including the ever-popular heavy equipment and skid steer demonstration as well as new booths from outside cities.
At the County Career Booth, high school students will have the opportunity to fully explore a range of public sector careers, as well as student worker opportunities. Staff will be on hand to share their experience with graduating seniors about STEM-based careers and professions that involve being outdoors such as, landscaping, surveying, construction and other exciting opportunities.
This event provides a wonderful educational experience for your students, giving them a unique opportunity to connect with VCPWA staff members while learning about a vital organization that is dedicated to providing and sustaining Ventura County. This event was a true joy! My students learned so much and were very excited to attend. I appreciated seeing all the different grade levels and having presentations adapted for us. This was a well-organized event that provided so much more to my students than I could offer in the classroom setting. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to attend. — Irma De Candia, McAuliffe Elementary School, Oxnard
