The week of May 20-26 is National Public Works Week, an opportunity for public works agencies and professionals nationwide to bring positive attention and awareness to thousands of unsung heroes who help to maintain the safety of its citizens as well as the infrastructure and services of cities and counties throughout the United States.
On Tuesday, May 22, the Ventura County Public Works Agency will host an educational Public Works Day event inviting the public of all ages to participate in various activities. The Government Center parking lot will be filled with display booths, including the ever popular heavy equipment and skid steer demonstration as well as new booths from outside cities.
At the County Career Booth, high school students will have the opportunity to fully explore a range of public sector careers, as well as student worker opportunities. Staff will be on hand to share their experience with graduating seniors about STEM-based careers and professions that involve being outdoors such as, landscaping, surveying, construction and other exciting opportunities.
This event provides a wonderful educational experience for your students, giving them a unique opportunity to connect with VCPWA staff members while learning about a vital organization that is dedicated to providing and sustaining Ventura County. This event was a true joy! My students learned so much and were very excited to attend. I appreciated seeing all the different grade levels and having presentations adapted for us. This was a well-organized event that provided so much more to my students than I could offer in the classroom setting. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to attend. — Irma De Candia, McAuliffe Elementary School, Oxnard
WOW! Thank you so much for arranging such a wonderful day for our students – they had a great experience and learned so much! Abel was a kind leader, and each activity helped us gain a better understanding of all the people and effort that make our communities work. — J Keri Collier, Briggs, Santa Paula
