STORMWATER TRAINING FOR NEW EMPLOYEES

New Employee Training

Stormwater Training

New employees of the County of Ventura and its Agencies are required to complete stormwater training applicable to their position within 180 days of starting employment. New employees and annual stormwater training requirements are for the County employees whose work assignments, work interactions, and work activities may affect stormwater qualities.

Once you have completed watching all applicable training videos, please email your name, position, title, Agency and Department names, and your phone number to PWA.CountyStormwater@ventura.org. Make sure to indicate which training videos you watched.

 

General Stormwater Pollution Prevention

All County employees in targeted positions (whose interactions, jobs, and activities affect stormwater quality) are trained on the requirements of the overall stormwater management program. Please note, that this training video is from San Diego, but the stormwater pollution prevention principles are relevant for Ventura County. This training will provide you with a clear understanding of the potential for activities to pollute stormwater, and identify opportunities to require, implement, and maintain appropriate BMPs.

Construction Program (Soil Disturbance Activities)

All County employees whose primary job duties are related to implementing the construction stormwater program, including construction managers, construction inspectors, and others. This training will provide knowledge of the General Permit for Storm Water Discharges Associated with Construction and Land Disturbance Activities (Construction General Permit), including its Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), monitoring and reporting program, and required BMPs; local requirements; appropriate structural and non-structural BMPs; and post-construction and run off education requirements.

Application of Pesticides and/or Fertilizers

All County employees who use or have the potential to use pesticides and/or fertilizers (whether or not they normally apply these as part of their work) are trained on pesticides and fertilizers. This training will address the potential for pesticide-related surface water toxicity; the proper use, handling, and disposal of pesticides; Integrated Pest Management Programs; and the reduction of pesticide use.

Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination

All County employees who may come into contact with, or otherwise observe, an illicit discharge or illicit connection to the County storm drain system, are required to complete Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE) training. The job responsibilities include street sweeping, storm drain maintenance, road maintenance, and other work assignments.

Industrial Facilities and Commercial Facilities Program

All County employees whose primary job duties are related to implementing the Industrial and Commercial Facilities program need to be adequately trained. The training will provide knowledge of the General Permit for Storm Water Discharges Associated with Construction and Land Disturbance Activities (Construction General Permit), including its Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), monitoring and reporting program, and required BMPs; local requirements; appropriate structural and non-structural BMPs.
